Chapter 0 ยท Orientation

Before we begin โ€” a question for you.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ This is a construction trade course. It covers professional painting of homes, commercial buildings, and structures โ€” surface prep, primers, coatings, tools, safety, and how to get hired. It is not an art course, a decorating course, or a DIY course.

Before we teach you anything, we want to ask you one thing. Take a moment. Be honest with yourself.

๐Ÿ’ญ What do you think a professional construction painter actually does all day?

Write it down, say it out loud, or just think about it. By the time you finish this course, your answer will be completely different โ€” and that's exactly the point.

What this course is โ€” and what it isn't

This course will give you the knowledge and know-how to become employable. It will teach you what every surface, tool, product, and technique is โ€” and why it matters. It will prepare you to walk onto a job site, speak the language, follow direction, and start learning from day one.

What it won't do is replace practice. No course can. The real skills โ€” the clean cut line, the smooth roll, the perfect prep โ€” those come from repetition on the job. Every painter you'll ever admire got good the same way: they showed up, they paid attention, and they practiced. Over and over.

Your goal right now is simple: become employable. Get hired. Get on a job site. Everything else follows from there.

So what is this trade, really?

Most people picture a painter as someone rolling white paint on a bedroom wall. That's like saying a chef is someone who boils pasta. It's not wrong โ€” it's just a tiny sliver of a much bigger world.

Professional painters are the people who transform spaces. Before a building is handed over, before a family moves in, before a hotel reopens โ€” painters are the last trade to touch every surface. They protect buildings from the elements, restore surfaces that would otherwise deteriorate, and turn raw structures into finished, livable spaces.

"Most beginners think: 'I need to learn how to paint.' Pros know: 'I need to learn prep, consistency, and efficiency.' That's the difference between a $20/hour painter and a $300โ€“$1,000/day contractor."

Why this course exists

Darco Inc created this course because the path into the painting trade is unnecessarily confusing for beginners. This course gives you everything you need to get hired โ€” the vocabulary, the knowledge, the certifications, and the confidence. Once you're on a job site, practice does the rest.
